Mansion 1The Mansion

The Mansion is an alternative high school for students who have average or above average intelligence, but significant emotional or behavioral problems. Students who have a pattern of rebellion, withdrawal, depression, or self-destructive behavior may be good candidates for The Mansion.

Program Description

The Mansion combines academics, group therapy and behavior management to help students turn from destructive patterns and find positive, constructive ways to handle life issues.

Class sizes are small, averaging 8 to 10 students. Credits issued by the Mansion are recognized by all high schools, colleges, and other institutions of higher learning. The Mansion has been in operation since 1975, and is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The therapeutic component of the Mansion is based on the Guided Group Interaction model. Students are taught to hold each other accountable for their actions, building strong relationships of trust and accountability. Students participate in daily group therapy, led by a licensed therapist, to help address problems as soon as they arise while also working on the deeper issues which first brought them to The Mansion.
